Residency and Fellowships / Program Introduction

The UCLA Residency Program in Neurosurgery is a rigorous training program designed to develop academic neurosurgeons. A well-founded subspecialty organization within the Division has provided excellent training for the residents in all aspects of Neurosurgery: Neurovascular, Benign and Malignant Brain TumorsSkull Base SurgeryEpilepsySpine (including spinal instrumentation), PediatricsStereotactic RadiosurgeryNeuroendoscopy, Trauma, Pain, and Peripheral Nerve. Residents rotate through three hospitals: UCLA Medical Center, the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. There are ample opportunities for both clinical and basic research both within the Division and in collaboration with other labs or departments at UCLA. Applicants are expected to have a strong academic record with a strong interest in commitment to Neurosurgery. Three candidates are selected for the program each year. Invitations to interview for these positions are based on the candidate's academic record, National Board scores, publications, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.
