To support and foster the education of trainees, the Department of Neurosurgery will provide the following items:

Meal stipends are provided for Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center Clinical rotations. Balances are cleared annually. Some funds are assigned to each resident for vacation/emergency coverage. Funds may not be replenished.
There are separate meal programs at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and West Los Angeles Veterans Administration.

One pair of surgical loupes is purchased for each resident. The resident is responsible for the upkeep and repair.
One iPad mini or equivalent is provided at the beginning of residency. This device is to be used for educational purposes, including eBooks, rapid access to internet based resources, etc. The tablet can be replaced using annual educational (book) funds if approved by the Residency Program Director.
The Department does not cover/reimburse for the purchase of personal computers. Personal computers used for research purposes can be purchased if allowed by research grant funding (requires research advisor and Residency Program Director approval)
Annual Educational Fund$500 educational gift is given annually beginning the NS1 year. The funds are intended for eBook purchases but may be used for other neurosurgical essentials with prior approval from the program director.
Registration and examination fees for Fluoroscopy certification are provided.
The Department does not cover/reimburse the California Medical Board Licensing (application and renewal).
